If you are a sole tenant you can request to change your tenancy to a joint tenancy. To be eligible the new proposed joint tenant needs to meet some simple requirements;
- the proposed joint tenant must be 16 years or older
- they must have lived at the property as their only principal home for the 12 months before the tenant applies for them to become a joint tenant. The 12-month qualifying period applies to everyone.
It's important to note that the 12-month qualifying period does not start unless Trust has been told that the person is living in the property as their only or principal home and Trust has granted permission for them to live there.
We will notify you in writing of our decision within 28 days of receiving your request to add a joint tenant. Where consent is refused we will always explain the reason.
