Sheltered housing

Trust's Sheltered housing consists of self-contained flats or houses for households that need regular support, where at least 1 person is aged over 60 years.   Two developments, Abbey Hill in Edinburgh and Abercromby Street in Glasgow, are mainly, but not only, for profoundly deaf people.   Sheltered tenants and the Association sign a Scottish Secure Tenancy agreement.

The Sheltered staff are of a Co-ordinator, working office hours Monday to Friday, who is also on call during the night from Monday to Thursday, a cleaner and stand-ins to cover holiday and other leave.   At all times of the day and night, there is an alarm system with a pull cord in each room.   During working hours, calls on the alarm system are answered by the Co-ordinator.   At all other times, an alarm call is sent to a specialist call centre, which will organise any necessary assistance.

Common areas of a Sheltered development include a lounge, where tenants and staff arrange social events, an assisted bathroom and a laundry.
