Responsible To: Supported Housing Co-ordinator

Job Summary:
The Tenant Support Worker is contracted to deliver to one or more named tenants, specific housing support services that are in addition to those services that form part of the tenant’s core service charge. As a member of the Development’s staff team, he/she is primarily responsible, for supporting and assisting a named tenant undertake, in so far as they are able, tasks identified in his /her Housing Support Plan.

A Tenant Support Worker contract is time limited to the needs of a named tenant. Tenant need is subject to constant change and therefore the level of income received by the Association will likewise change. In such circumstances, while the Association will attempt to maintain some continuity of contract level for the worker, this cannot be guaranteed.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. To be aware of the policies of Trust Housing Association to the extent that these policies affect the development.
  2. To ensure the pursuance of the aims and objectives of the development, maintaining strict confidentiality and non-discriminating practice, and reporting any suspicion of possible abuse.
  3. Work under the supervision of the Supported Housing Co-ordinator and liase with the other development workers as appropriate, to support tenants in maintaining their home and sustain a reasonable quality of life, by respecting their right to dignity, privacy, choice, safety, realising potential, equality and diversity.
  4. As directed by the Supported Housing Co-ordinator, support and assist a named tenant fulfil the tasks specified in his/her Housing Support Plan, that relate to:
    Security of Dwelling, B) Safety of Dwelling, c) Compliance with Tenancy Agreement, D) Good Neighbour Activities, E) Home Cleaning Services, F) Other Housing Support, which may include for example:
    1. budgeting and the management of their finances, if so requested.
    2. organising and undertaking necessary personal and household shopping
    3. preparing basic refreshments or light meals, taking into consideration any special dietary, and cultural needs,
    4. domestic tasks, e.g. bed making, general tidying, hoovering and dusting, spring cleaning, laundry, dealing with the disposal of household refuse etc.
  5. In the absence of the Supported Housing Co-ordinator:
    1. when he/she is not in a position to fulfil the contract ensure that alternative staff cover is provided and the tenant informed of the change in support
    2. to report an maintenance problems to the appropriate department
    3. to contact appropriate agencies, e.g. family, carers, etc, if assistance is needed.
  6. Fulfil all the administrative requirements relating to the post, e.g.
    1. entries into communication and recording books, updating files etc.
      adhere to the development’s Food Safety Risk Analysis (HACCP).
  7. Undertake delegated training associated with the role, for which the hourly rate will be paid where this falls outside the contracted hours.
  8. Undertake any other relevant duties considered appropriate to the post, which will include providing fair and reasonable cover in the absence of a member of the peer group
